Consultation outcome

Background

The destination playground at Parana Park was last updated in 2012 and is due for a refresh as part of our ongoing playground renewals programme. The goal of the programme is to keep our play spaces safe, fun, and in great condition for years to come.

The refreshed playground at Parana Park will stay a similar size and keep its much-loved awa, tuuii and koowhai theme, water play, and custom-made equipment. The features that are retained will be repaired and refreshed, and some new play elements will be added based on community feedback.

From 13 January to 10 February 2026, we sought feedback from the community to understand what they would like to see included in the playground refresh, so we could use these insights to help shape its design.

What we heard from the community

We heard from 370 individuals and three representatives from organisation during the engagement. They shared what they enjoy most about the current playground, what new elements they would like to see added, and provided additional insights about their households to help us understand who will be using the space.

Top pick of current play elements that respondents love and want to see refreshed (based on their child’s age):

Decision

The feedback and insights received during the consultation will be considered as we develop the refreshed playground design, within the requirements of our renewal guidelines.

The final playground design is expected to be confirmed around October 2026, with construction scheduled to begin from late February 2027.

The park contains several protected trees that must be preserved, so all design and construction activities will need to work around these trees to ensure their health and compliance with protection requirements.

Existing playground

The layout plan shown below represents the existing playground and its key elements. It is not a concept design for a new playground, but rather a visual reference to help you understand the current playground and layout. Grey shaded areas along the left side indicate natural shade from protected trees.
