Overview

The Building Act 2016 was amended in 2017 changing the current system for identifying earthquake-prone buildings.

Council has identified roads (thoroughfares or routes) that are important for emergency vehicles.  We have also identified roads and footpaths that have a lot of people and cars moving along them and there is a risk that if a building falls people will be hurt or killed.

We want your feedback on the roads and footpaths that we are proposing to be prioritised. We also want your views on whether there are any other roads and footpaths that should be included.

The impact of prioritising these roads is that buildings will have to be strengthened or demolished within 12.5 years’ time.
