Why your views matter

Hamilton Zoo is one of the city's most popular attractions, entertaining around 130,000 visitors each year.

As part of our commitment to providing the best visitor experience we can, we have developed a draft Hamilton Zoo Master Plan.

Completed in 2014, with the Siamang Gibbon exhibit (page 30 of the plan) already constructed and in use, the document looks ahead at opportunities to enhance our zoo and develop what we already have.

It is a long-term plan with a range of projects we could roll out between five and 15 years.

At this point, no funding has been allocated to the plan.  The Mayor and Councillors would consider funding the plan, or some of the initiatives included, as part of its 10-Year Plan process.

What happens next

The next step for the Hamilton Zoo Master Plan is public feedback.  The Council operates the Zoo on behalf of the people of Hamilton, so it's important we seek the community's comment on the plan and what it aims to achieve.
