We’d like your feedback on the section of Peachgrove Road which sits outside Hamilton Boys’ High School (HBHS) and Peachgrove Intermediate. Thousands of residents, students and passing vehicles use the corridor daily.

During school drop off and pick up times, the area gets heavily congested. Local schools have advocated for a number of years for Council to invest in road safety improvements in the area.

To respond to this, we’ve developed a range of improvement options for Peachgrove Road between Wilson Street and Frances Street.

Now, we’re seeking your feedback to help decide the best way forward.

Peachgrove Road improvement options

The following options are all funded by borrowing, so costs are shared with future users who would also benefit from improvements to this section of road. Council has budgeted for this project in its transport programme under the current 2024-34 Long-Term Plan.

The section of Peachgrove Road we want your feedback on forms part of a wider programme called Eastern Pathways, which includes providing safe and accessible options for students walking, cycling, scooting and taking the bus along the Peachgrove Rd and Hukanui Rd corridor.

    Complete school zone safety upgrade

    This option delivers improvements along the full length of Peachgrove Road, between Wilson Street and Frances Street.

    Targeted school safety upgrade

    This option focuses on safety improvements around the front of schools while retaining a small number of short‑stay car parks on the eastern side (Peachgrove Intermediate).

    Option 3: Signalised pedestrian crossing on Peachgrove Road, at Wilson Street

    This option focuses on targeted safety improvements at the highest demand crossing area near HBHS while retaining most existing on street parking and minimising wider corridor changes.

    Option 4 - Focused on parking and enforcement on Peachgrove Road

    This option focuses on improving how the current road layout operates today, without building new infrastructure along this section of Peachgrove Road. It would retain the existing 52 carparks.
