Overview

This option would focus on improving how the current road layout operates today, without building new infrastructure along this section of Peachgrove Road. It would retain the existing 52 carparks.

Currently, most on-street parking along Peachgrove Road is used by students for longer durations and is unavailable during school drop-off and pick-up times. This leaves parents and caregivers to park on yellow no-stopping lines.

Potential measures could include:

  • Time limited parking on Peachgrove Road such as 10-minutes and 15-minutes (during peak school hours only).
  • Installing ‘no U-turn’ signs.
  • Parking enforcement measures (including cameras) and education.

As with the other options, we would work with students to identify all-day parking options on nearby streets.

Indicative cost: $100,000

Map: Option four - Focused on parking and enforcement on Peachgrove Road
Benefits Things to consider
Limited disruption (signs would be installed outside of normal working hours). Lowest cost out of all options.
Would retain all existing on-street parking on Peachgrove Road, reducing traffic impacts on side streets compared to Option 1 and Option 2. Would not address safety concerns at the busiest crossing point on Peachgrove Road (near Wilson Street).
Time-limits on parking (during peak school hours only) and parking enforcement cameras for Peachgrove Road:
  • would improve availability of parks on Peachgrove Road during peak school hours
  • would encourage better, safer parking behaviour.

Lack of separated shared paths would mean students cycling and scooting must continue to use the footpath or road.

Installing ‘no U-turn’ signs may discourage some risky U-turn manoeuvres. Installing ‘no U-turn’ signs are less effective at discouraging unsafe driving behaviour compared to changing road layout.

This option does not include upgraded bus infrastructure.
Unspent funding allocated to this project would go back to Elected Members for a decision on whether to save it or reallocate it to other transport projects.
Additional corridor wide improvements in this area would require future budgeting decisions.
