Founders Theatre has been closed since 2016. It sits on a triangle of inner-city parkland in the heart of the West Town Belt, a band of open space linking the Hamilton Lake Domain to the Waikato River.
We closed the theatre because of safety concerns over the operation of the stage house fly system and fire and other safety hazard protection. The building is also earthquake-prone and the cost to restore it has been estimated at $12M to $20M.

We’re planning to upgrade the playground at Hammond Park in Riverlea. It will remain a small neighbourhood play space but with a few more pieces of equipment than the current swing set so it’s more fun for local kids. We’re also proposing to add a toilet.
